hope for some
hi all. nervous coz i'm new. i'm slack with the capital letter thing. with that out of the way, i'd like to start by saying that it's been difficult but reassuring to read of other people's feelings and experiences. i have long felt useless, guilty and very depressed about things that happened to myself and my sister from a young age. our mother was a narcissist and a psychopath with a very violent temper and we faced so much on a daily basis. it has left me with complex PTSD and i didn't realise what it was until a couple of years ago. i was looking up some stuff for a Vietnam Vet friend and found something called EMDR, which sounded like it could be useful. unfortunately, he didn't want to know about it.
shortly after that, something on tv triggered me big time and i decided to call the EMDR service which i'd looked up for my friend. the first thing to do is to go with an open mind to the method of treatment and establish trust for the person treating you. you also need to be stable and sober.
i've done this with great success and, despite needing to continue to untangle some of the more complex parts of my traumas and self-beliefs, i have become a much more stable and happier person.
if anyone would like to hear about how it's done or discuss what they've read about this method, i would be happy to talk about it. i do have to mention that EMDR isn't for everyone or work for everyone but for me it has brought about powerful changes; giving me hope for a much better life.
