About You

Hey everyone,

I'd really love to hear your stories about what brought you here, what you hoped to get out of being involved in this online community and what you found when you started to get involved.

I'm mostly interested in positive outcomes but I appreciate that not all things are so please feel free to also share negative things as long as it's in a respectful and constructive manner.

Thanks for your time.

@Former-Member

I came because life was overwhelming. I initially came for the drop in service but saw the forum and thought Id try. Life is still ovewhelming but I feel like I have some support now. People that listen and dont judge. Might not always get a response but I know people have followed my posts (they've told me). While I dont feel like I have a voice in the real world here I do

Re: About You

I first came here when I was googling information on anxiety as I was having a lot of really intense and overwhelming anxiety symptoms. Something lead me to hear.

I was a bit hesitant at first, but felt very welcomed straight away. I really like that I can post anything and everything and it’s pretty guaranteed that someone out there in computer land is going to read it and make me feel heard and understood. They don’t necessarily have to say much in response, if anything.
And even though there are so many rules around what you can and can’t post and share and sometimes you have to be a bit cryptical about what you are sharing, there is something special about the relationships that I have formed over the years.

Hi @Bow @ClockFace ,

I believe the two messages above are for you.

@Former-Member , welcome to the forums. It might be handy to know that when responding to a post, type "@" in front of the username so that they get a notification. That way, forum members will not miss your lovely posts!

See you around!

@tyme
Hey, thanks for that. I assumed that because I replying directly to the comment that it would appear as such and potentially notify the relevant people if they had the settings in place to do so. That's good to know. Cheers.

Welcome to the forums @Former-Member

I was googling I think when I first found Sane. I like that I am understood here. Everyone on the forums is in a similar boat but in different stages of their journey’s. I have made some great friendships here but it is difficult for me when those friends leave the forums for a time because you worry something may have happened to them! I am a natural worry'er. I am overall enjoying my time here but I wish it was easier to search for posts instead of falling across them by happen-chance! I hope that you make some friends and feel included here.

Hey there @Oaktree ,

I'm hearing you when you say forum friends 'leave'. As a forums user, I used to be worried too. However, over time, I actually learnt that the forums have helped them move onto bigger and better things! Once in a while, they will return and say hello 🙂

It's actually very rewarding to see.

Then, there are others who continually use the forums as a way of connecting with people.

@Former-Member - Welcome!

Hey there,
Thanks for your reply.
It's definitely nice to have people who can understand and maybe even relate to what you're going through (whatever it may be). Family and friends are fantastic but it doesn't always mean they can really understand what you're experiencing.
I get that it could definitely be concerning when people stop posting but I guess we just have to hope that maybe they are in a place where they don't feel like they need the support as much and are coping okay.
Glad you've had a positive experience.

Hey @Former-Member,

Thanks for your response.
I really hope you've found a little more understanding on here. It can be hard in day to day life to feel that same connection.
All the best.
