Help Please - Identity Crisis

Help Please - Identity Crisis

Hello. Can someone please help me?

I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia in 2021, though had my first episode psychosis in 2018.

I am really hating myself at the moment. Conflict and abandonment seems to follow me everywhere.

I separated from my husband in 2017 who I believed was abusive however the lawyers told me I lacked insight and blamed my problems on everyone else but me. They blamed my exs behaviour on me. The thing is the delusions started after the separation.

My lawyers wanted to abandon me just before my divorce trial. At the time I was suffering from delusions that my children had been sexually abused by me ex and father.

My cousins and best friend no longer speak to me.

My best friend because I contacted the police on his behalf when he was charged for historical sexual abuse telling them I thought he had been set up by my father and ex husband. She told me she never wanted to speak to me again, and hasn’t. I miss her so much. But at the same time as I type this I wonder clearly what I was saying was delusional and I am wondering why she didn’t reach out to anyone that I needed help.

My cousins who I grew up with and lived with for 2 years when I was 5 because my own mother was hospitalised for schizophrenia and no longer want anything to do with me because I lashed out during the funeral when one of my cousins told me to give them space on the day when I reached out on the morning to offer strength for the day of the funeral.

I have asked my best friend and cousins for forgiveness with many heartfelt apologies more than I care to remember. The cousin that asked for her space on the day of the funeral replied to one of my apologies and told me to never contact her again.

I am now excluded from every single family function.

the thing is when schizophrenia me into that world it made me very defensive which came out as verbal aggression. I was never like that before.

But the whole experience, my ex husband, my lawyers, friend and cousins have me questioning myself and if I am the problem in my life. I am trying so hard to get better. I really am. But it feels like no one wants to know about my schizophrenia. I didn’t cause this and I don’t want it.

I wish I had a supportive family, I know this illness is hard to deal with, and I can respect their choice. But I do miss them and it’s not easy losing everyone especially your family and people you once considered as your sisters.

I am sitting here reflecting on my behaviour that I am trying to unlearn, am I am attention seeker for lashing out, asking for forgiveness, am I narcissist? Do I have bpd?

and I am not doing this for attention because all the abandonment and lack of forgiveness really leaves you feeling suicidal at times…..which you start wondering in your head are you only saying that because you are a narcissist or have BPD?

I feel like the biggest piece of shit in the world. I really do. And I am so sorry that I am the way that I am, that everyone leaves. I miss my best friend and family so much.

Hi @Anon1975

Sorry to hear about things at the moment. It sounds like you're going through quite a lot. Do you see a psychologist or counsellor? I don't know a lot about BPD but many members on the forums have lived experience of it. I'll tag @BPDSurvivor as they may be able to offer some support/guidance.

Sending hugs

Hanami

Thank you @hanami . I just don’t think I can cope with anymore or suggestions of diagnosis.

Hi @Anon1975,

I sounds like life has been pretty challenging for you for quite sometime. I'm sorry that you are feeling the way you are. From what you have written I can tell you are really trying and do hope with time your best friend and your family members do come to accept your apology and you can reestablish your bonds.

I don't know a lot about schizophrenia but I can imagine it could be pretty challenging to navigate. I really hope you have good professional support and people in your life that can sympathise with what you are going through and do offer you comfort.

Warm wishes,

FloatingFeather

@FloatingFeather

Thank you for your words of comfort, and I also hope that one day I can reconnect with them.

for now I need to give them space and accept their decision, as painful as it is. I am certain that seeing my descent has been painful for them too. It’s a terrifying illness for everyone.

I have my two children that I share with my ex that by some miracle are proud of their mum and we love one another to bits. I have my partner of three years who also loves me to pieces, and a great friend that is such a wonderful support since I became unwell.

I would like to make another friend this year.

I'm really glad to read that you have some really good people in your life @Anon1975. Your children, your partner, and your good friend all sound really lovely. I think you should give yourself some credit - from what you say they really love you and care about you very much. Sounds like you are doing a lot of things right 🙂

It seems to me that no matter what the circumstances, unfortunately when we are diagnosed with schizophrenia many people will abandon you.

Some people have the courage and fortitude to understand that our delusions are a result of our mental illness, yet some can not.

In my own experience I have lost many , so called friends, family , a wife and intimate partners over the years.

Personally I have a very small circle of loyal people. I came to SANE to connect with people in my life journey that are experienceing the same as I. My psych thinks I should reach out as I am very isolated, though of my own choice, but she says I have a lot to give . I actually don't do any social media, I basically am a hermit in this modern world. Again my choice.

Please one thing, don't blame yourself, be kind to yourself, most of all embrace that you have a Medical diagnosis.

I lost a daughter in my latest episode, I've been informed , no contact. So I feel your pain of losing those we love. Unfortunately having a schizophrenic Dad is intolerable in this modern world.

I feel that people nowadays are very quick to belittle others without knowing all the facts. I also beleive people gossip so much that it becomes their beliefs.

Just remember to be grateful each day. Shine in your own way and most of all radiate the love for your close circle.

I call the rest Hairdressers, they make money gossiping about people.

Time is a great healer and so is showing that with medication and time you've changed.

I still reserve the fact that no contact is a time to review my own thoughts of rekindling a relationship and is it positive for me ? I know it's a hard one but I say to myself, you ditched me at my lowest ebb. No matter the connection, that's a kick in the guts.

I know who stuck with me over the years. Man they have put up with some shit, let me tell you.

Just remember your making good , your recognising your issues, so, It's ya time to shine. Not everyone accepts or understands schizophrenia, unfortunately it's a mental illness with a lot of mistruth.

Don't forget, SANE is a click away.

@Triumph750 @Thank you for sharing your experience, and I am very sorry to hear about all that you have encountered and continue to encounter since being diagnosed.

I really do like this forum and at times of despair there is always someone that says something that helps us keep going.

my mum has schizophrenia and she is truly inspirational with her recovery and I always look up at her, as to what I could also achieve.

have you engaged the NDIS at all? How have you found the experience?

In response to: Re: hRe: Help Please - Identity Crisis

Re: hRe: Help Please - Identity Crisis

The NDIS, I could go on for hours.

The biggest issue is proving the on going disability. If you have at any time , not taken meds, or not used a psych, they use that as a reason to say , it's not a permanent disability.

I find the NDIS is useless. The rules are very extravagant for serious mental health issues.

My own experience.

Thank you.

it doesn’t sound like the NDIS is worth the effort.
