Diagnosing psychiatrists

Diagnosing psychiatrists

Has anybody ever tried to diagnose a psychiatrist? I understand many psychologists and counsellors have different issues from lived experience, but the psychiatrists I have met all seem to have some kind of fatal character flaw, normally revealed as some kind of 'God' complex not based in reality.

Can't say I've try diagnosing a psychiatrist @justanotherguy . But like all of us, they certainly have their flaws. I have to say though, I've met some really really down to earth , 'normal' psychiatrists. Hence I don't think I can generalise when it comes to psychiatrists.

Sure, they probably have similar interests, and hence their profession?

I love my psychiatrist !

Ive seen him weekly for a year and i feel like hes my advocate and support. He looks out for me and works to gain the best outcomes for me. We have fights from time to time which are called ruptures - inevitable in any relationship. Im not big on diagnosing anyone because i think all that matters is how they treat me. Narcissists definitely exist in psychiatry

Thanks for sharing that @EternalFlower - very encouraging. I've had some incredible psychiatrists in the past, hence I think it's hard to make one general statement about them all.

Another interesting question @justanotherguy ! I have to tell you that at my old job in community mental health, the staff spent a lot of time analysing one particular psychiatrist's behaviour. They mostly concluded narcissistic tendencies. Sometimes I would worry that they would get caught by said psyche walking in on them talking about him but then thought he would probably like that lol. That said, the other psychiatrists at our service were really lovely.

Hi @tyme , I guess if the psychiatrist seems to be ok there would be no reason to diagnose them. But as I've stated many times the ones I have seen have been unbearable! It's good to see others with positive experiences, it gives me some hope.

I thought similar to you before actually finding really good psychiatrists!!! @justanotherguy Unless the not-so-good ones was because the good ones were all booked out and I was left with the bulk bulled ones that no one really stays with?

But yes, eventually I found a few amazing psychs
