Something’s not right

Is this being paranoid?

Is this being paranoid?

Just putting it out there, I had a new neighbour move in in January who I have met before. I was talking to him about living in our units and he was pretty adamant about not letting the real estate agent take photos inside his unit for inspections which seems pretty common now. Then during another conversation he mentioned a few things in passing that were actually items in MY unit which I thought strange as they didn't relate to the conversation at all and I know he has not been into my bedrooms at all (he has been at my front door). I do feel a little violated when the real estate takes photos but I don't think I have much choice, but the agents have a duty of care and I trust that the photos don't get seen by anyone else. I've had a lot of issues with strange things happening that I don't talk about as mostly it's just annoying but with the mental health history that I have it's not worth causing any more trouble for myself.

Hey there @justanotherguy ,

Hmm that does sound very interesting, and I can see how you would be concerned.

Did the person living in the other unit mention why they don't let the real estate agents take photos of the inside of their unit? Maybe they have previous experience with this that they could let you in on.

If it is bothering you, maybe next time you can tell the real estate agent that you don't feel comfortable with them taking photos, and you would like a detailed explanation as to why they need to do this, and what the purpose is/ if it is completely mandatory?

I'm sorry that you're feeling concerned about your safety, it can be really challenging when neighbours are being a little bit iffy, or your real estate are doing things that you aren't sure about. I've been in a similar position where we were renting and our landlord would come so frequently to do checks that it felt almost invading of our own personal space and ability to live. We never knew when they would be at the house, and even more pressing that they had a key and knew the house very well!

I hope you get some answers soon,

All the best,

Amber22

Hi @amber22

Yes, the neighbour was visibly perturbed when I mentioned the agent take photos inside during inspections, said the standard line about it's an invasion of his privacy and they had no right to do it. I'm not sure what the rights are but I feel powerless to stop them, I guess I don't complain as I have nothing to hide. Like I said, I've had a lot of unusual things happen to me over time, most I can't verify though, most just appear to be strange coincidences.
