Hi,
I used to meet criteria for Munchausen Syndrome (I prefer Factitious Disorder). And Borderline Personality disorder. You are free to ask me any questions, I would love the opportunity to help a fellow sufferer recover. When I began treatment (there is treatment(, I told the counselor, "I want to earn the right to have this taken off my file." And I have, though it took time (rebuilding trust), hard work and learning some good coping skills.
First order of business: Be careful what you wish for.
Yes, on occassion, I have thoughts, but I am able to manage them.
For me, it was trauma based in cause. I have a very severely narcissistic and borderline mother and a father who was a severe alcoholic. My mother was violent towards my older (adopted) sister, and has gaslighted me my whole life. When my sister was 15, my mother took her to McDonalds and bought her a Happy Meal and gave her a one-way plane ticket to go back to live with her birth mother (don't have kids if you are going to do that). I was bullied at school as a child (started school at 4 because I wanted to, by the middle of 8th grade, I was essentially refusing to go). I have also been sexually assaulted and witnessed a mass shooting at 19 years old. That's the cause in my case.
Nothing was sacred. I have had unnecessary procedures and feigned illness. It has left me with legitimate and serous medical issues (right now, I have no insurance).
In my experience this will get worse until someone decides it's time to change and sees the error of their ways. What helped?
A Twelve Step Program (I think it needs to be required for this. as it is a severe form of self-harm, an addiction, as well as a program of rigorous honesty

Having a part-time job helps
Generally developing the capacity for honesty and good coping skills will go a long way to recovering.
Both BPD and FD have been "undiagnosed"
The current and real medial issues I am now not faking or inducing are a terminal GI disorder, though I am not dying anytime soon, my life will be shortened by it. I also am now actually dealing with severe chronic pain from avascular necrosis (caused by prednisone I took over the years while making my asthma worse by exposing to allergens and cigarette smoking), severe osteoarthritis (need a knee replacement and have no insurance), my knees are bone on bone, fibromyalgia, peripheral neuropathy, and the list goes on. My pain is managed medically as if I don't treat it, it is severe enough, I will become suicidal. Again be careful what you wish for.
Please feel free to ask any questions.
