Going home

Going home

Hi all happy new year too. For those of you who know I am dealing with an abusive flatmate and after a week away I am returning home today, wish me luck. I have been staying with an old friend and she has given me some strategies to try. My anxiety is very high and I’m scared but I need to video her abuse to send to the realestate so I can have her removed. I am going to try not to react and to stay calm.

I am praying that I can have her removed and start the new year in a safer environment.
big hugs to you all xxx

Re: Going home

Hey @Sirine .

I've been about you situation. I'm just some forum weirdo but, not sure i I agree with the your real estates agents response.

1. It feels like passing the buck, instead of responding to safety concerns. You already documented by reporting the incident to them.

2. A home is not a public place. The legality of who has the right to record who, is a bit murky. I'm not even sure a real estate agent is allowed to instruct a tenant to record another tenant.

Maybe I'm just fretting, and I don't really k now what I'm talking about. My thing is, I'm not convinced the real estate agents know what they're talking about either. Real estate agents are more about sales than service. We all know it.

You know what you're doing more than I do, but, I'd feel more certain about advice from the the RESPECT team or the police or a legal advisor or your states domestic violence team. Just because it's the business that they're in.

That aside, I'm all with you on your safety making missions. I've been in unsafe homes. They suck.

For some random advice. I heard on a random thing that predators can be scared off by organization. On reflection, I'd say, yes. It does tend to make them more cautious. Organized people are more complicated to prey upon.

@wellwellwellnez @Thanks for your thoughts hun.

Due to this not being an intimate relationship I can’t use dv resources all I can do is get a peace and good behaviour bond. Police won’t even come when she is abusing me.

As for recording the agent wants proof and yes I agree it’s a murky area.

At present all she has done is ignore me and play her music loud it’s almost like living with a teenager.

again thank you.

Right. I see. You know what's going on.

The teenager behaviour seems like an improvement.

Re: Going home

@wellwellwellnez @It’s getting worse again I’ve resorted to scotch so hard to stay sober with this shit going on. She threatened me with her new furniture now and that I have to find somewhere else to put mine. Have recorded some of the conversations but I think I need to get onto legal aid. Also sent a huge email to the realestate and will follow up with a call tomorrow. Shit is hitting the fan. I don’t feel safe at all and she’s just threatened me again. I’m too scared to sleep

Re: Going home

Furniture politics again? It resonates. I've had "robust conversations" around furniture arrangements.

A lot of them have been value-based conversations (for something that's technically mundane). Both the good and bad versions of those conversations revealed a lot about what's important to me and the others.

Makes sense. Furniture kind of defines space. And, space kind of defines us.
