Off meds

Off meds

Whoa am I heading to my second psychotic episode. First time I have been off meds since bipolar 1 diagnosis approx 8 years ago. Gradually stopped meds four months ago. Feeling a bit edgy and slightly out of control. Anyone out there that may be able to assist me?

Hi @Justatadcrazy

Welcome to the Sane forums and sorry to read that you are feeling edgy and shaky at the moment.

I assume you gradually stopped your medication under the guidance of your GP or psychiatrist. Did your Dr give you a number you can call for after hours emergency advice & care?

If not, it's best to ask a friend to take you to your nearest public hospital for medical assessment if you are having psychotic type symptons e.g. high anxiety with paranoid thoughts, visual or auditory hallucinations (hearing voices etc) or bizarre type behaviours.

Another option is to call the local Crisis Assessment Team from public mental health services in your State. They are 24/7 and will do an assessment over the phone.

It's vital that you call a friend to help you to link with MH services.

Let us know how you get on, or if you need contact numbers (please mention your State but not address).

kind regards,

Frog

Re: Off meds

Yes I gradually stopped my medication but the GP I was seeing is no longer at the Medical Centre I attend. I haven't seen a psychiatrist for at least the past six years. I would appreciate the contact number for the crisis assessment team in Qld just in case my grasp on reality slips any further. I remember being given this number when I was discharged from the mental health ward. My thoughts are a bit jumbled and my brain is tired andI am unable to relax

Re: Off meds

Doesn't sound good @Justatadcrazy,

The phone number for Qld is 13 Health: PH: 13 43 25 84 They are a 24 hr mental health crisis team. Give them a call straight away.

Call a friend also if there is someone who can check in with you.

Take care and come back to us when you feel a bit better.

kind regards,

Re: Off meds

All good. I'm in a safe place at my sister's who knows my history. She will be home soon. I also have another relative here with me atm. I appear 'normal' on the outside so it is difficult to explain to them what I perceive to be going on in my head. Just don't want to tip over to the point where I may become physcotic.....that's a scary place of no control and I don't want to slip there and not realize it. Thanks for your concern. I will call that number now.

Re: Off meds

@Justatadcrazy. Just wanted to check and see how you're doing today.
Have you been to see your gp or psychologist or mental health team yet? It really does sound like you need to go back on your medication.
Please let us know how you are.

Thank you I am safe and have self admitted myself into the local mental health unit. They have started me back on my meds. Thank you for your concern of my wellbeing. It's a nice feeling to know that people care.
