Where do these delusions come from?

Where do these delusions come from?

I was at the vet today for my assistance dog (turns out she’s fine, thankfully) and even though I explained that I needed her, the vet insisted they needed to do the blood test in a different room where I couldn’t come. They were gone about 15 minutes, and I was not in a good way when they finally returned her. By then, I was convinced that they had actually sold her to someone, and that they knew I knew this and there were cameras in the room recording my reaction to it all. I was pacing and practically hyperventilating, and screamed at the vet when she returned with my dog. I think she was a little shocked, but I did try to warn them.

Is there any further research on where delusions come from in psychosis? The cameras watching me one is so ubiquitous among people with schizophrenia. It always struck me as odd that people with my diagnosis seem to share a lot of similar delusions irrespective of who we are.

Sorry no answers from me @Former-Member

But Great question!

Re: Where do these delusions come from?

If I was to guess @Former-Member I'd say it was the brain experiencing an illogical feeling like being watched, or being targeted but there's no one around, and trying to make it make sense by creating a scenario where that feeling would make sense.

I imagine there were many folks in medieval times who thought they were haunted by ghosts for this same reason.

But I am only theorising, not sure how accurate that is.

Great question.

Since it's being watched and not physically under attack, maybe it has something to do with self image or being excluded from the clan? Guessing here..!

@Former-Member It’s a reasonable guess, but there are more ways of being attacked than physical. I did think they were purposefully targeting me and selling my assistance dog to someone. I wasn’t worried about my self image at all, different kind of “feeling watched” entirely.

Re: Where do these delusions come from?

Well that seems specific. I don't think there is much research on where these things come from unfortunately, but I'd also be interested to know. The industry tends to focus on cures only.

I read that Victor Frankel said his "Logotherapy" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logotherapy) can be extended to Schizophrenia. It's not so much research but a theory. "He recognized the roots of schizophrenia in physiological dysfunction. In this dysfunction, the person with schizophrenia “experiences himself as an object” rather than as a subject."

So I mean the link from physiological dysfunction to his "search for meaning" theories isn't explained here at all.
