Re: Medibank cyber attack

@BlueBay, I think it's completely understandable that you're feeling super worried about this.

I think the first thing to do is try to ground yourself. Is there anything you can do today to ease your panic a little bit?

Secondly, I found this article which has a step-by-step guide to what to do. You could take it one step at a time? The few steps are

  • If you are concerned that your identity has been compromised or you have been a victim of a scam, contact your bank immediately and call IDCARE at idcare.org or call 1800 595 160
  • If you think you may be affected by the breach, contact Medibank Private on 13 23 31 or ahm on 13 42 46
  • Customers can speak to Medibank's mental health professionals 24/7 to discuss any mental health questions or issues. Free service for all Medibank and ahm customers. Call 1800 644 325.

On the forums, we can't give you specific advice on what to do as we don't have the expertise, so I reckon call the people above to see what you can do?

Re: Medibank cyber attack

Hello @BlueBay

I can't believe how uncanny this is.

I had just received notification of exactly this myself.

I have the same reactions as you.

I am going to ring and speak to the cyber section of Medibank to hear their response and advice.

There are links and phone numbers for advice listed in the notification received.

You might want to look at this with a family member.

I will be ringing the respect phone support line due to my history.

The information from the special line provided might be enough for our needs.

The email received from Medibank Private detailed the relevant phone numbers to ring.

Then I am going to look at the suggestions made by @Former-Member also.

I am relieved that you did receive such a helpful response from Tuxedocat.

This alone starts the process of feeling supported.

My go to survival instinct is telling me that we are two people of how many thousands.

If we follow the advice provided to protect our ID; and not respond to unknown phone calls; text messages; emails which I already do not open just delete and then delete in the recycle or rubbish bin on our computers we are doing all that we can to protect ourselves.

I am relieved to find your post actually.

You are showing strength and courage.

I thank you as you have helped me already by finding your post.

We can be affected differently to others, who have been victims of these hideous crimes.

We are already dealing with helping ourselves to move forward with our lives from our own life history.

We are vulnerable and if we open up about our vulnerability as you and I have on other occasions Bluebay we have already started the process of taking care of ourselves.

We are also helping others on the forums and this you do well.

I do believe talking about this at a counselling level will also support the anxiety level which I know that I am experiencing. I hope that you reach out also to your outside supports.

We can also continue to reassure ourselves that we are small fish in a huge ocean and because we are taking all precautionary steps we will get through this.

This is a sign of the times across the globe.

A reminder that we are learning to live alongside viruses both medical and electronic.

Progress comes at a cost.

The uncanny part is that the first post I read on logging on just now is yours; Bluebay.

This is about the very issue that I have just read myself and am dealing with.

Perhaps we have sensed the need for support of each other and I have found you.

I will be thinking of you going through this and be with you all the way through; whether online or not.

We can do this together with that invisible bond that true support provides inviting and including others should they wish to join us.

What do you think?

Does this help at all?

I truly hope so.

love

Re: Medibank cyber attack

I received one this morning too @BlueBay

I’m not with Medibank anymore as I changed funds a few years ago so I’m not too concerned as it will only have my dental work on it. Medibank said my other details were safe.

💙💙💙

Re: Medibank cyber attack

hi @Sophia1 It's such a coincidence.

I did contact medibank and spoke to a mental wellbeing person. She asked what i was scared about and i told her my fears. She has given me some phone numbers to contact especially if i receive scam emails, messages or calls.

I have also registered my name with Maurice Blackburn lawyers as they are taking on all the customers former and current to take action as a class act to Medibank.

I am okay, i was very overwhelmed and scared earlier on today. i still am a little, not knowing how much info they have.

i have had a migraine headache all day again and i have been sleeping on and off. i am sure the stress of this isn't helping.

@Eve7 i read you also got an email too. I am too a former member so i guess i shouldn't worry too much. but me being me i worry about everything.

thanks for your support, we can support each other.

@Former-Member thanks for your support and giving us these phone numbers.

Re: Medibank cyber attack

Hello @BlueBay @Eve7

I was on the phone for nearly 4 hours!

Your call is now number 20 in the queue and slowly as the tortoise, you have now reached number 19 yeah.

I had the phone on speaker so apart from the irritating recorded message I was able to do other things.

Still draining.

They have my personal information, email, phone number etc so there is an element of unsafety there that I do not like at all.

The claims details and provider numbers, diagnoses and treatments has been placed on the dark web accessed by criminals only or some such similar scenario.

That part has sent my anxiety rocketing.

I have also registered with that lawyer.

There are other organisations now releasing updates that they were hacked also.

The world is not a safe place at all sadly.

I know that we have to learn to live with this stuff and some of the deranged leaders in charge of other countries.

I think that it is important to notice the effect it has on each of us if it does.

You did well Bluebay.

@Eve7if you do not feel concerned or compromised then you are responding to what you think is the right thing for you which also makes sense.

Take care

I'm sorry to hear @BlueBay this has happened to you.

Having your information compromised is a scary thought. I hope you will find the resources @Former-Member has posted useful.
