Re: My mind is beginning to scare me
Hi @Storm,
I'm one of the moderators on the Forum, I just wanted to pop in and say welcome, and well done on your first post 🙂 It's a really scary thing to do, I know.. So thanks so much for putting in the time and courage to share your story.
It really sounds like this year has been awful for you @Storm. I can't even begin to imagine how you've been managing so many stressors and pressures all at once. I'm not surprised that you feel as if your feelings are overwhelming you- I think anyone going through what you are would feel exactly the same.
First there's the grief and loss of your father's diagnosis, the trauma and stress of the assault and of course the pressures of school compouding on it all.
I'm really glad to hear you have a counsellor that you feel comfortable confiding in. Do you feel as if the work you are doing with the counsellor is effective at helping you manage your emotions and thoughts of self-harm? Maybe if you're concerned they aren't being as helpful as they could, you could look into getting a mental health care plan from you GP and seeing a psychologist instead? If you get the mental health care plan you can ususally see someone for free, or just pay a gap.
There are lots of members on the Forum who have lived experience of the types of challenges you are going through. I hope you get the kind of support and guidance you are looking for.

Re: My mind is beginning to scare me
I'm just wondering if your counselor is experienced in sexual assault or maybe grief counseling. The reason I ask is that sexual assault is such a traumatic issue - that it's best to deal with an expert in that field.
I agree with @Former-Member that if you are comfortable with your counselor - that's great. Just make sure that you are getting the best help possible.
EMDR therapy might be something that you can discuss with her. This worked really well for me - with an incident at work - & I know my old psychologist who specialised in this treatment - often used it successfully on rape victims.
You are under an enormous amount of pressure from others at the moment. Are you also putting extra pressure on yourself as well. This can be quite common.
Although I don't have experience with sexual assault, there are a number of members who have lived this experience. Hopefully they will pick up your post in the next few days - as not everyone logs on daily here.
Hoping you find some healing soon. It is possible to recover. And you are not alone here

Hi @Storm
The others have provided some great feedback - I just wanted to add one thing.
If I'm understanding your post correctly, you're still in high school or may now be at university?
I wanted to pass on a great resource for people under 25, which is a website called ReachOut.com
They are a wonderful organisation, which also have online community forums, like this one, but for people 25 & under. You can find them here if you're interested.
Take care,
Nik

Re: My mind is beginning to scare me
Have you been able to make contact with Reach Out yet? It sounds like they offer really good support to young adults.
Have you had another appointment with your counselor since you posted here? When you do see her - please be honest and open and let her know how much you have been struggling.
Do you have time off school yet - getting ready for exams. Please don't worry too much about the exam and results. Just do your best. It's more important to focus on your mental health - as your first priority. A test can always be re-sat if needed.
Sending you my thoughts and a bit of extra strength to help you through this time

@Storm ,
Hugs. It is distressing to feel threatened by your own thoughts.
Hope you're finding a safe place or person, someone or somewhere that allows those expectations and pressures to dissolve xx
