New Guidelines For Images - Were any of you aware of any consultation for this?

New Guidelines For Images - Were any of you aware of any consultation for this?

The other day, I found out about this new set of guidelines that had been put out on what images people should and shouldn't use with regard to mental health (https://mindframemedia.imgix.net/assets/src/uploads/Images_matter_Mindframe_guidelines_for_image_use_Final.pdf). Curious about where these guidelines have come from, I looked at pgs. 26-27 of the document (actually pg. 14 of the PDF file), where they discuss how the document was developed. In there, there are a handful of fleeting referances to consulting with "lived experiance people".

I admit that I'm not always up for every consultation/survey I hear about, and TBH, sometimes I even forget whether or not I've actually participated in some of these things. But I have no recollection whatsoever about hearing about any survey/consultation associated with these new guidelines. Maybe it was run past me and I just waved it off; I don't know anymore.

Did any of you hear anything about it?

The reality is if it's being put into practice now, with glossy pamphlets and all, the lived experience consultation was probably at least 4 years ago.

My 'living in the MHU'/'what mental health professional is that and what do they do?' documents, which I drafted in January and February 2021, were refined by current inpatients and peer workers, and the hospital is just starting to talk about them as a cool new co-design initiative that is in the works. I don't believe they are currently being used on the wards yet, but our drafts have been spread to other health districts and localised, but they're not in the hands of new inpatients yet, helping them find the laundry or helping them realise that some of their 'medicine side-effects' are likely caffeine withdrawal.

Beaurocracy moves slowly, doesn't it, @Gwynn ?

So, say your right about the consultation being approx. 4 years ago - back then consultations/surveys of this nature were broadcast far more poorly then they are today (or perhaps I just wasn't on the right mailing lists at the time.) Either way, it's highly unlikely that I would've heard anything about it.

And by the same token, I suspect it will be no less then 10 years or so before such guidelines come around for an official review.

4 years is literally just a guess, based on my experience with my own project. There would very likely be more stakeholders here and an iterative process of the graphic design as well as the wording.
