This morning I was excluded from a psychosocial support group and I am feeling very hurt and very angry
As a person who has autism I find it very hard to verbalise sometimes especially in "in-person" social situations. At the psychosocial support group I attend in my community we do what is known as a "check-in" each morning. This morning it was going to be very challenging for me to verbalise and do a check in, so I thought about writing down my check in and getting a staff member to read out my check in. I wrote down my check in on my laptop, and asked the staff member by writing down "can you please read out my check-in". The staff member did not want to even do that -- she said that this was my own check in and she can't check in for me. I was quickly angered by this and then I left.
It is for precisely these reasons (and then some!) as to why I feel excluded from particular spaces in my community. The message that is being sent to me, again and again, is that I am not welcome here. These people might as well be saying, whether you are autistic or not, you will have to either fit in with us or ship out. That's really what it feels like.
I have emailed my disability advocate, she is now aware of yet another conflict. The pain I am currently experiencing is awful and my anger is absolutely through the roof.
