And my story comes out...

And my story comes out...

It's confusing when you get told you have all these disorders, you sometimes think what or who am I? Am I real? That's sort of thing. Like me for eg, I was diagnosed at the age of 3 with ADHD... Then later came major depressive disorder, eating disorders and suicide attempts in high school and planning my own funeral, then came college where I had another unsuccessful attempt at seeing hell in its glory and going on my first anti depressant, later on psychosis (hallucinations and delusions) with mania setting in I didn't understand it back then so I kept to myself, along with abusive relationships, self harm, and the most degrading job of my life. In all that I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 W/psychosis and my boyfriend left me because he couldn't handle my emotions, I was on anti psychotics, mood stablizers, and anti depressants which went on for a few years trying to find the right combination, worst one was making me gain XX kgs and feeling like an absolute zombie, during this time I did that degrading job that not many people would really want to do... working in a strip club during that I developed a personality disorder (histrionic personality disorder), another eating disorder on top of that and insomnia, I went off my medication in 2017 to 2021 when I had to start taking anti depressants as after my son was born in 2020 I developed postnatal psychosis as well as having a bipolar/psychotic break, in that time I had a mental evaluation by a psychiatrist and he diagnosed me with having depersonalization and derealization as well as being diagnosed with Asperger's and Schizotypal personality disorder having the other personality disappear and my old work was making that happen. So as you can see it's been an interesting journey of mental health problems.

Wow @Jeebeezx that is quite a journey!

Trying to understand who you are, and questions around reality must be very difficult, especially with so many different diagnoses and complex issues surfacing. I have had to read your post a couple of times to be able to get a bit of an understanding for myself. I can’t imagine what it has been like for you ☹️.

How are things going for you now?

Its going okay, I'm at a stage where I want help from a psychiatrist again but as well as that I don't want to be put on anti psychotics or mood stablizers. My son and my husband keeps me wanting to live.

Hi @Jeebeezx

Thank you for sharing your mental health journey. I'm so glad you found the forums. There are many wonderful, caring members here that will relate to your experience. We've all been impacted by mental illness at some stage of our lives so can empathise and relate. I can understand your hesitancy at seeing a psychiatrist as most do tend to reach for their prescription pad way too easily. I was quite surprised at a recent review of my medication with my psychiatrist that he told me the older he gets the less he thinks medications are the answer. He said likes to spend more time these days really getting to know the person sitting in front of him and what circumstances have led them to mental distress. I daresay he's unique but hopefully things are slowly changing. Do you see a pscychologist or counsellor? They could be a good option for you.

Looking forward to seeing you around the forums.

I've only ever seen psychiatrists. I've been to 4 psychiatrists and never seen a psychologist. I saw a suicide counsellor in college but that's it.

Re: And my story comes out...

I urge you to see a psychologist. I live in rural NSW where psychiatric services are almost nil. I see both my psychiatrist and psychologist online. Best thing I have done in my mental health journey. It means I don't have to travel and I can have the consultation in the privacy of my own home which has been a bonus when I have been so unwell getting out of bed was a very big deal. My psychiatrist is in Sydney and my psychologist is in Daylesford Victoria. Having a psychologist has been the best decision I ever made in my 25 year mental health journey.

Hey @Jeebeezx

Maybe making an appointment to see a psychologist might be helpful. You could always discuss the options of medication and your concerns about taking them. It is also important to find a psychologist or a counsellor that you can share your concerns about medication with in likeminded terms. Unfortunately, this may mean that you go through a few, before you meet someone that can support you how you want to be supported. This can be challenging in itself.

I am glad to hear you have a beautiful little family, that can make the world of difference when the chips are down ☹️. What are some of your favourite things you like to do with family?

Hugs,
