And then I was back....

And then I was back....

Hi everyone, I went missing for a little while, the wheels came off a bit, but I'm back, not too badly dented. Have finally received an official diagnosis of CPTSD, and am coming to terms with the fact that my resolution is going to be a volume down, not a volume off situation. Slowly changing medications, so expecting a bumpy couple of months - I had built up getting a name for it to be a much bigger thing than it ended up being, but we have a plan of attack so that's a plus.

Hey @welcome_snacks

We haven’t met, I am new to the forums. Nice to meet you 😊

The thing about wheels is, they can come off, you can get a flat and sometimes they even go in reverse. When they go in the right direction and do all the right things, it’s okay, but when they don’t…. It can end up in a few dents. Glad to see you’ve come back to the forums, hopefully they can help with a bit of panel beating.

Waiting for a diagnosis, can feel hopeful, but at the end of the day, the symptoms and feelings that were there before are still there. It can feel like such a letdown. The benefit to a diagnosis is, as you say, is they sometimes come with a plan of attack. Hopefully this plan can give you some strategies to minimise the effects of the cptsd sometimes.

And I HAVE to ask, what are your dream welcome snacks? I love corn chips and sweet chilli Philly as a welcome snack 🤤

Hi @Former-Member nice to meet you.

You're so right about the letdown, I don't know what I expected but it wasn't disappointment.

Dream snack changes depending on my mood, toasted cheese sandwich, chocolate brownies, a spoon full of lotus biscoff spread, or cheese and onion chips are frequent go tos. Corn chips and sweet chilli philly sounds like a must try though!

Re: And then I was back....

I have never heard of lotus biscoff spread 😃 Where do you buy it?

Re: And then I was back....

You can find it near the peanut butter in the major supermarkets, other brands call it speculoos spread (it's the flavour of a dutch biscuit) but be warned, it's not a jar you can easily put down 🤣

Hey there @welcome_snacks 🙂

I am so glad to see that you have rejoined us! Welcome back!

I am sorry to hear about you feeling as though your wheels have come off a bit. It must have been tough for you. We are all here for you on the forums, and you're not alone in this journey with your new diagnosis and changing medications. I see that you think it might be a bumpy few months after this because of it all, but we are here for you at any road bump you may meet.

Great to see you connecting online. ❤️

Hi @welcome_snacks,

It's great to have you back and I'm glad to read (as you say) you aren't too badly dented. I think it is understandable that it takes a while to process and digest any diagnosis - it can be a confronting and emotional process to go through. It sounds like you have a good plan of attack - I really like when you say `turn the volume down .... not off'.

Please be kind to yourself, as you probably know changing medication can take a little while and we need time to adjust. Anytime you want to chat the forums are here 24/7 so we are always around to support you and all our members

Warm wishes,

FloatingFeather

Re: And then I was back....

Hi @amber22 , thanks, it's great to be back. I know that these new meds come with a suite of side effects that are only going to be temporary, but in my exhaustion just seen like another barrier.

Hey @FloatingFeather thank you. The volume down realisation has been a really bitter pill to swallow, coming to grips with the fact that all of this can't just be out back in the box and forgotten about for another few years.

Being kind to me is something I'm particularly struggling with and am working on some mentalisation techniques to get better at recognising what's mine, and what's the legacy of my trauma. Today I'm having a why me, why do I have to do the work, etc day. Trying to focus on the positives and reframe that I'm being brave and that I'm breaking the cycle and I'm strong enough to take it on now, and I wasn't before.... Most of all though that is not forever
