Something’s not right

Medication

Medication

Two things right now.

1) I feel so tired. I literally cannot sit upright and can barely keep my eyes open. Yet I am in bed and my brain is wide awake. It is so weird.

2) Life is just really hard. I have never had these thoughts before, but I am thinking about stopping my meds. Not because I think I don't need them. I do need them to function. But because when I'm not medicated I become unwell. That takes over and I don't have to deal with everything else. It is a bit scary.

That is scary. Do you have some other way of escapism? Like an exciting thriller novel to read, or a gripping film, or intense exercise, or loud music through headphones... whatever floats your boat?

Hi @Gilligan,

Welcome to the Forums. My name is FloatingFeather and I am one of the peer support workers at SANE. It is nice to have you here.

I understand your feelings around your medication, I have been on medication in the past that made me feel unwell and not quiet myself so I understand what you mean but I would really encourage you to speak to your GP (or whoever prescribed your medication) before you decide whether to stop taking your medication or not.

As you said you need your medication to function so the medication is important. Maybe instead of stopping medication you just need to change them to something that works better for you?

In addition, any sudden stop of certain medication can be dangerous. If you do want to stop taking your medication it is important to do it under medical supervision as you may need to stop taking it slowly so you mind/body can adjust.

Warm wishes,

FloatingFeather

Re: Medication

Hey there @Gilligan ❤️

I definitely understand where you are coming from, and I can relate.

I have been on a few medications throughout my life regarding my mental health and some can definitely take a lot of adjusting too, or they just end up not making you feel too great!

I was on a medication a few months ago that made me feel very nauseous and just not myself, so I talked to my GP and changed to a different one and I feel so much better.

It's always worth bringing up how it is making you feel physicaly as well as mentally when you go in to see your GP. Some medications may work for some people, but not work for others, and thats completely fine. That is the beauty of experimenting until you find the right one for you!

Do you have any other coping mechanisms besides medication that help you feel a little bit better throughout the day?

Take care,

Amber22
