Being a bipolar parent

Being a bipolar parent

Hey everyone I am new here I am searching to connect with other dads who have bipolar. I have a three-year-old and a four month old and my condition is so debilitating that I am unable to work any more. I am 35 and married. My wife is incredibly supportive and is my anchor throughout this whole experience. I was only diagnosed four years ago and it has been a rollercoaster ride since. First starting with a drug induced psychotic breakdown this let me to connect with a psychiatrist to help diagnose my condition. It turns out I was using marijuana to self manage the condition. It turns out I had this condition my whole life but I just didn’t know it. The hardest part for me isn’t the lows but managing the highs. I’m finding it really hard as a parent in particular managing my daughter when she is naughty and managing the rage that I get. Just yesterday a lady at the shops intervened when I was attempting to manage my daughter after she threw through a big episode ends were screaming at the shop. This ended up with me abusing a woman and creating a big scene. This is not the kind of stuff I want my daughter to see or remember me by. Medication is an ongoing battle to get it right, we have been tweaking it for four years now. Just when it gets right we need to change it again. and I think I’m in the midst of another manic period. Anyways I just thought it would be good to connect with other dads or even parents and share experiences or even strategies that have been used to be a better parent in a range of different situations. Thanks
