Switching antidepressants

Switching antidepressants

Does anyone have experience with a particular type of antidepressant not showing any benefit after several weeks? My Doctor is admitting me to an inpatient clinic for better support, medication review and likely switching in a controlled environment. I’m worried that the new medication will not work either. I’m interested in hearing from forum members who have had success after switching.

Hi @Therese7 ! Welcome to the forum! 🙂

Oh yes, I can certainly relate to meds not working after several months! In my case, the therapist didn't care to listen to my concerns about the lack of progress. In the end, they didn't do anything at all except make me fatter.

The really messed up thing about it was that pills were never going to solve my problems anyway; I was mainly just going along with what the therapist wanted in order to stay in his good books, so that he would actually help me get a girlfriend->wife, new home and job. But it wasn't to be.

Hey @Therese7 ,

Welcome to the forums and thank you for your post.

For me, trialing antidepressants until I found the one 'for me' took a while. It takes a few weeks for one to get out of the system and a new one to kick in.

Eventually, I was given one that worked and have lived very successfully taking it.

Bottom line, we are all different, and for some people certain anti-depressants for work, and for others, they don't work. It's hard to tell. However, it seems good that they are trialing different ones. It is also a combination of effective psychotherapy which worked for me. I had some incredible therapists who really cared and supported me.

All the best,

tyme

Hi @Therese7

Welcome to the forums. Yes I have definitely heard of lots of people who have had to change meds and the new ones have worked. I was lucky that for me the first thing I tried worked. Adjusting to medication is definitely hard and it sounds like you have a caring doctor who wants to support you through this tricky period.

Sending hugs

Hanami
