Something’s not right

cw: Derealisation. Wrong universe.

cw: Derealisation. Wrong universe.

Hello, first time poster. Please let me know if I've written anything wrong.

For the last week I've been convinced that I'm in the wrong universe. Like I made the wrong decision about something really small 5 years ago and now ... butterfly effect ... I'm trapped in this weird place that doesn't make sense, I'm not supposed to be here, and like the air is all wrong and I can't breathe properly. I have things in this universe that help me feel grounded sometimes but the majority of my week I'm just feeling trapped. Being around other people doesn't seem to help coz I can't seem to properly connect with anyone I meet and so I end up feeling more alone than before.

It all started feeling wonky 5 years ago so I feel like maybe I made the wrong choice then and now I'm living in the wrong timeline.

Does anyone else feel like this? And how do you start to feel okay here?

Ugh. I was writing to you and went to look for an app for you to download and lost everything I wrote so am starting again. Please read this whole message and dont get put off by the words God and Jesus. We all have an enemy mercury. Satan. Yes he exists and his greatest trick is to getting us to believe he doesn't. If your thoughts bring you torment then it's a good chance it's from him or your distorted thinking I say. From experience. @pjc1965 thats me if you want to save my name or reply. I'm very new to sane and still learning. If I don't reply, it's because I'm having trouble finding you or connecting. Anyway I suggest you download an app. bible.com .you pick a topic and bible verses on the topic will be read to you. You dont have to do any reading. Click on play at the top or bottom of page. Eg. Anxiety, depression, love,.. I can't remember but there's like 14? Topics to choose from. I have a prayer book I love because they are written prayers with a picture of who you are praying to. Only Jesus. Or who you are getting to pray for you. Mary, a Saint, an angel. Favourite Catholic Prayers. About $15 online. Pick which Prayers suit you. Write in a book your own Prayers. God created you to have a relationship with Him. Not many people do that. God works through me. He can work with andvthru you too if you let Him. Hes given you free will to connect or not. But beware! You won't necessarily get what you pray for but what God knows is better for you. An example. I had a friend for 3 and a half years. She ended our friendship. I was devastate. It took 4 months to let her go. God has given me 4 new female friends last Friday and I believe the chance to reconnect with Bernice February 2024. Back to distorted thinking. Then its good to talk it over with a trusted wise older friend with lived experience or better still a psychologist. If its your distorted thinking. A good one can be hard to find. I think I've said enough.

Hi @mercurycazimi,

Welcome to the Forums. My name is FloatingFeather and I am one of the peer support workers at SANE. It's great that you have found us - we have a lot of lovely and supportive members with varied lived experience.

I found your post really interesting. I can't say that I have felt that way but I am open to other peoples experiences. When I was reading your post I was reminded of existential counselling. It focuses on concepts that are universally applicable to human existence including death, freedom, responsibility, and the meaning of life. It's not something I recommending it's more a form of counselling that I'm wondering may be similar to what you are thinking about?

I look forward to reading what other people think about your experiences.

Best wishes,

FloatingFeather

Hi @pjc1965,

Thank you for your response. We appreciate you sharing your journey with us. I can see that your lived experience has been very significant and important to you.

Whilst everyone is entitled to their opinions some discussions can be triggering for others and we are mindful that not everyones experiences around topics that may be personal and/or sensitive are the same. For some it can cause pain and negativity. If this is the case for anyone reading this you may wish to contact supports such as:

Re: cw: Derealisation. Wrong universe.

That is a really interesting title @mercurycazimi . I can relate to the sensation you describe.

@pjc1965's monotheistic approach makes metaphysical sense to me. In the event or assumption of any kind of meta-verse, that meta-verse would be "meta" (i.e. "many") but also "verse" (i.e. "together").

I'm also thinking of that scene in the Spiderman movie. Other metaverse Marvel movies as well, but there's one particular scene where all the Spidermen start sharing their canon in a sort spontaneous support group. To wrap your head around the scene you have to accept that none of them are the real spider-man but all of them are the real spider-man. Their canon may diverge but they all have their own meaning. Something I found comfort in, considering the winds on life's road.

Re: cw: Derealisation. Wrong universe.

Welcome to Sane forum @mercurycazimi. I also liked your thread title. To me it shows thoughtfulness. A long time ago I hung out with more sciencey types and (studied it.) I also read a little sci-fi. We talked about parallel realities, Schrodinger's cat and all that, and many sci-fi movies have been made about those things since. I watch only enough to be in it with the kids, otherwise I tend to more substantial science than literary or fictional.

I looked up your profile name because I did not have a clue what it meant. More people talked astrology than science when I was young, and I bought a book so I could understand a bit of they were talking about too, found it interesting and I still reflect on it, but I leaned to the sciencey side.

kazimi ... seems to have an Arabic root ... "as if in the heart" ... mercury ... related to planets, metals and the concept of mercurial, which covers a lot of ground....A lot we could talk about.

Science does not have all the answers and I keep searching for ways to understand feelings, and life experiences. I am sciencey enuff to be skeptical about new whizzbang tekkie ideas, but thats me.

Religions seem to be ways people have developed to understand the whole shebang of existence. I grew up in a religion and have studied a bit of theology to understand. Sometimes religion helps and sometimes it hinders, in my experience. I think humans are driven by many motives and that truth seeking is an important one.

Derealisation was not a word around much, when I was young. I have felt distant from people and close to them, depending on what is going on. I have felt similar sensations to what you describe, but I never jumped to the position that I was in the wrong universe, more that this universe has plenty wrong with it.

Hope you get some value from the people who post on this website. It has been good for me.

Take Care

Re: cw: Derealisation. Wrong universe.

Thanks @FloatingFeather! I've never heard of existential counselling before. Thank you. I do think there's resonances. We're living in a time where war, climate distaster, food shortage, inequality, pandemic is everywhere all at once. And we're just here. On our phones watching the planet slowly descend. So I think it's natural we start thinking 'what is it all for?'. What use is money, fame, accolades. And the ephemeral things we supposedly all live for ... love, joy, wonder. Where do you even start to find that when this timeline is swiftly hurtling to its end?

Re: cw: Derealisation. Wrong universe.

Oh, heck yeah I love that movie. I think feel like Peter B Parker. In the 'wrong universe' and if I don't get out, I'll glitch out until I die. But in my 'home universe' I'm sad and have no real world prospects either. But okay, I see that being in the 'wrong universe' is still useful. I could be useful to somebody. Maybe. I don't know.

Re: cw: Derealisation. Wrong universe.

Thanks @Appleblossom. Yeah, I feel I'm inside the sci-fi. I know some people feel this and don't feel so distressed but for some reason I am. But the responses are nice. Thanks.

@mercurycazimi

Your distress is REAL to you. Look around for self care techniques and experiment with what works for you.

I quite like this lady ... she has a dry sense of humour.
