Getting on with life

Getting on with life

I don’t know about you but having a MH issue doesn’t mean an end to life. I want to create a thread of what works and what doesn’t work in society. And maybe people can share theres too.

what I found that doesn’t work for me Is when you’re out there vulnerable and dealing with your own problems people will want to add to your troubles and worries. Another thing that doesn’t work for me is staying at home and not contributing to society people see you as a lesser to some extent. Another thing I found out that doesn’t work is not having confidence within your self people will feed into it.

on the contrary what I found to work for me is if you try to blend in people don’t know the difference. What works for me is having a job where I can focus my time and effort into and not deal with my MH issues, being around people who are accepting whether they know my diagnosis or not. Another thing that’s worked for me is winging it just going with the flow, you appear you know what you are doing and people accept that.

now my main goal from this thread is to see if people are on the same wavelength and whether you found reintegrating back to society easy or difficult given your MH challenges. If you care to share or not that’s up to you

just reaching out cause feeling a little lost in life after a challenging year things seem to have settled and I’m left alone for the most part which is surprising and I’ve managed to stay out of trouble which is good 😊

Hi @Former-Member,

I could resonate and so respond to working while you are unwell. It's a constant struggle but I have found quiet and kind supporters from places I'd never expect. I have actually used my workplace to reach out to others who are also suffering and it's been like a collective sigh of relief. It's so hard most days for us to simply get to work and give it our all. I've bought up mental health with someone at work who I thought needed support and I was accepted by that person who shared the fact they needed help. I just included my thoughts of concern into everyday chat and the person I spoke to took on board that I knew they needed some support. I tried to help in a way which was relaxed discreet non judgemental. I'm scared sometimes to reach out but the feeling afterwards means everything. Thankyou so much for introducing your thread. It's very insightful and breathes new life into helping others around us at work. This site gives so much and for everyone on here sharing I'm so grateful. I open my eyes and realise we are all in this together. We can only do this life together. I want to continue to improve my ability to empathise with others and make a positive influence around me. If I didn't have the support of my most wonderful workplace I'd be lost. My workplace saved me many times and gave me reason and worth. It took me time to finally realise this. Experience is the greatest teacher.

Re: Getting on with life

ohhh I love this thread @Former-Member!

I really resonate with a lot of what you said. Especially important for me to remember is that going with the flow and "faking it til you make it" can be really powerful things.

I thought I'd tag a few if our community guides to see what they reckon! @Anastasia @AussieRecharger @BPDSurvivor @Faith-and-Hope @HenryX @jem80 @Judi9877 @NatureLover @outlander @Shaz51 @ShiningStar @Snowie @Hams @wellwellwellnez @Zoe7 @Aniela @Boo13 @maddison @pinklollipop15 @Eve7

For me, I think what works is knowing my warning signs for when my MH is taking a downward turn and then having a clear plan for myself for long-term wellness!
