What do you do to bring yourself back when you don't seem to want to be part of anything and everything feels like an effort. You just keep feeling like you can't handle anymore bad news

Re: Not attached

Hi @Tiki,

It's hard when everything feels like such an effort... it can be a sign of depression. It sounds like you have had some bad news lately. Is there anything you would like to talk more about?

I have suffered from depression in the past and one the things I remember going through was immense tiredness and feelings of being overwhelmed. It seemed like a massive effort of concentration just to take a shower and get dressed. It was so hard.

Have you been to your doctor to talk about how you feel? There is help available if you need it.

Otherwise, try not to judge yourself too harshly for not feeling up to doing things. Resting and taking time out are important. We all need time out occasionally.

Please let us know how you are doing.

Sahara.

Re: Not attached

First try to deal with the situational problems that lead to the bad news. You are a separate person from the source of bad news. We often do need to express and relate about the particulars. Be very gentle & patient with self. Gradually as things settle your own sense of values wil help you find a vision & path.

Re: Not attached

Hi @Tiki. When I used to get too overwhelmed with depression and anxiety and life - I did a few different things.
FIrstly - I got professional help - gp- psychologist & psychiatrist. Although I no longer see my psychiatrist - because I've been doing okay.
When I need to take time out - I allow myself to do nothing. Just breath, sleep, read.
I might give myself a day in bed - but then I try to make sure that the next day I di the shopping, the gardening, the housework.
If I'm stressed due to finances - when the bill comes in - I open it and deal with it then and there (even if it's calling the company and making a payment plan) - that way the bill/s isn't sitting there stressing me out for days or weeks or longer.
So deal with what needs to be done as soon as you can. It takes some pressure off.
Reach out. My best friend is fantastic. If I need to talk or work something out, she is there. When I need a day/night without my child - he goes to my mums for the night & I get a break from being the sole parent.
If you struggle to seek help or get help eg: centrelink - find an advocate to go with you to any appointments. Friends or family members.
Reward yourself. If you haven't been showering for a few days. When you do shower - acknowledge that as an achievement. Celebrate the small victories.
I hope this was of some help
