Weird symptom of Depression?

Weird symptom of Depression?

I'm really going out on a limb here... but I think I might have Depression. Surprised Pikachu face.

Seriously, though, do you ever get the feeling that nothing really satisfies you? You want like ten different things but also none of them at the same time.

I mean I was in Woolworths and I was wondering what to buy as a snack. Dark chocolate tastes odd and leaves a strange feeling in your mouth. Milk chocolate is too sweet. Muffins are too rich. I love chocolate Oreos dipped in coffee, but I don't think they stock the coffee I like anymore.

I thought of getting espresso, but coffee tastes bitter too, and I don't know if I feel like it.

I'm hungry, and thirsty. I feel like tea but then I would have to get my big mug from all the way upstairs. I feel like reading. I'm reading a thriller right now but it's pretty emotionally confronting. I've also got Gold-Bug by Edgar Allan Poe, but I feel the urge to read that all in one go, which is kind of time-consuming, and I can't find a super comfortable position.

Not to speculate, but is this just a different type of anhedonia?

@florencefifty

This describes similar to what I experience with my Major Depression. I'm hungry. I want something to eat. I need flavour. I need texture. But nothing seems suitable. Seems right. So I go without.

The cup is upstairs. I would have to take my clothes off to shower. The hairbrush is in the bathroom. The hair elastic is in the bedroom. I can't possibly brush my hair AND tie it up. That's way too much effort.

Just thinking about all this has made me fatigued. I'm going back to bed.

Hey @utopia you really seem to get @florencefifty 's point.

Yep I reckon its anhedonia.

It can be useful NOT to put on extra pounds maybe ...

Anyways you both gave me a wry smile ... there is also humour in it.

Watched Jacques Tati the other night.

Good Morning!

Hi there @florencefifty

So sorry you're feeling this way. I've read a bit on anhedonia and it's a really complex concern, not even always caused by depression. I'm wondering if you've spoken to a health professional about how you're feeling?

Sending hugs

Re: Weird symptom of Depression?

@florencefifty I get this type of anhedonia too.

I don't care to eat or dress well. But if I don't eat I end up getting a headache which I don't like, that's why I eat. Nothing seems to really elicited joy in my heart. I've been incredibly restrictive in my diet the last 3 years, eating organic, gluten free and mostly dairy free.

Yesterday I bought a packet of lolly snakes and just went for it. It bought me some kind of positive feeling. Now I'm obsessed with lolly snakes. I dontknow if this is good or bad. But I'm just letting myself enjoy lolly snakes.

That was a very random and probably not helpful rant... in summary, you aren't alone in feeling this way, and try lolly snakes ☺

Hey @Christheart

You made me smile with your lolly snake story! My husband eats them all the time but despite eating a lot of lollies when I was younger I don't much anymore. I might just have to ask the husband for a lolly snake or two tonight!

hugs

Re: Weird symptom of Depression?

@florencefifty From my experience, that's not even a weird symptom of depression, it's pretty standard and one of the main ways I identify I'm depressed. It's like a lack of pleasure in things that would have or should give enjoyment. I find that it comes with a kind of irritation at not being able to find pleasure, being unable to choose or organise things, and in general just being disatisfied with everything and myself. I'm definitely in that state right now and it's not pleasant

@hanami I've been so restrictive with additives and sugar over the years. Right now I'm like whatever, hand me the lollies 🤣
