Well, that was weird!!

Well, that was weird!!

Hello everyone! I had the most weird experience this morning and have to tell you about it. I opened my door onto the driveway between the units and there were three magpies standing there. I expected them to fly off, but they just kept calmly walking forward. Two of them went to the door of the opposite unit, and the other came towards me and stood right in front of my, now closed, screen-door. I was thinking what an unnatural experience🤔, and stood looking at them for a while, in disbelief, as they stood looking at me, before closing my door. A couple of minutes later after hearing them 'singing', I went back for another look. The three of them were still standing in front of my door and looking towards me, still warbling away. I closed my door as it was unnerving. I felt that if I had opened my screen-door, they would have walked right in.

I've been feeling rather unnerved ever since. It was so totally unnatural, like an omen.

Thanks for sharing @Historylover ! Sounds unnerving!

From what I’ve read of magpies, they are extremely intelligent birds and can recognise faces etc. Maybe they have a fancy for you or your place?

Im glad they were singing and not attacking! Lol.

Looking forward to hearing whether they come back. They do like to return to their familiar place.

Yes, it really was unnerving @tyme and it has left me rather spooked. I'll keep a lookout for them tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if they found me worthy of a return visit. Just hope they don't bring their friends!

As much as I respect their intelligence and being ‘part of nature’…. I can’t say I’m a bird lover…. More the opposite! I have a bird phobia!

I’ve been swooped before too! @Historylover

My suggestion: stay in their good books or they’ll hold a grudge. And DONT feed them.

lol, tyme

Yes, I've been swooped a number of times @tyme. One once sent me tumbling down a steep embankment in fright, and then kept its eye on me as I hurried away. Every time I looked away, it prepared to do another swoop. They are intelligent alright. We haven't been on good terms since!

@Historylover @Don't panic, my friend

Magpies can be weird and friendly. I've seen them hang upside down from a clothes line for apparently, pure enjoyment. They also wrestle eachother for play and play dead.

Sounds like you had a couple of funny carollers!

I get disturbed easily when weird things happen, if I'm in a funny mood.

But I assure you, magpies and just weirdoes 🙃

Much love

It seems to happening more often. Really human confident magpies. They're figuring us out. It's eerie.

I've heard they recognise faces too @tyme @Historylover and can be very friendly. We used to have them coming into the kitchen. I love the sound of their song in the morning 🐧 🌼

Re: Well, that was weird!!

@Historylover Wow. I love Magpies. They are Beautiful Creatures. Gentle. I would see your experience as a good omen.

My neighbour feeds some local Magpies, and they often come into my yard for a play afterwards. I find it you treat them nicely, they respond with curiosity.

Lucky you.
