Mullioned Mazes


Wide awake I lie so tired

Brain alert and hotly wired,

Shadowed eyes pray sleep is near

Soul within me sheds a tear.

Brain alert and hotly wired,

Shadowed eyes pray sleep is near

Soul within me sheds a tear.


Turning corners without end

I run the endless maze again,

No way forward, no way back

Too much tension, where’s the slack?


Floating in a boundless sea

Of mullioned windows drifting free,

Each murky plane of portal glass

A cacophony of future past.


Tired of limb and heavy heart

Won’t consciousness please depart?

So I may find some brief respite

From tortured day and endless night!
