Coping with a breakup

Coping with a breakup

Hi Everyone,

My partner of almost 2 years and I broke up last Sunday. I am not coping. I have done everything right. I've reached out to friends, family, support workers, my Dr and a psychologist. I'm taking my medication as prescribed. I'm leaving the house, I'm looking after my son. I'm not a danger to myself or anyone else. I'm doing everything I can and I've still spent the last 6 days crying my eyes out. I can't keep feeling like this. I don't know what else to do. My heart hurts so much and I miss him so much.

@Cinderelessarwhat you are going through is perfectly normal. Dont be hard on yourself . The grieving period takes time unfortunately. Be kind to yourself, spoil yourself with lots of treats but let yourself grieve. Take care greenpea

Everyone keeps saying that. It doesn't feel like enough. I want it to stop hurting. Like yesterday. I can't keep feeling like this for months on end. I'm already sick of myself 😓

@Cinderelessar you will stop grieving just keep doing what you are doing. Keep busy and then the pain will slowly subside I promise you. This comes from a old pea.

@Cinderelessar hey, I'm Jynx one of the moderators, just popping by to offer some support. I think @Bunniekins is absolutely right and that things will subside in time. I know that doesn't make the pain any less right now, but have hope that things will get better.

To me, grief is the hole left after a loss of love, and so it shows just how deeply you felt for this person. Your love will find a new home, even if it is within yourself 💜

My ex messaged me tonight. I think I got as close as I'm going to get to closure from him. We are definitely NOT getting back together. It's done. Hopefully now I can start to accept it instead of holding onto hope.

Re: Coping with a breakup

Hey @Cinderelessar, please be kind to yourself, even when you're sick of how mopey you have been. Think of how you'd treat a close friend going through a breakup, and then lavish that care and love on yourself. If possible, try going to a close friend or two and ask them what they love about you. Reminding yourself that you're fabulous and that your ex doesn't know what he's giving up can help. 🙂

I like where you're coming from about not worrying about getting closure - I find it's sort of like forgiveness, in that the other person doesn't have to be anywhere near you when you 'get there', and it's more for you than for them. Does he share your child with you? If so, you may wish to seek advice on what to do about co-parenting.

You might also want to 'hack' your hormones - try to create some endorphins to go to battle against all that emotional pain you're feeling. Dark chocolate, vigorous physical exercise, dancing to loud music, or enjoying a laugh all work here.

Best wishes.

Thankfully no we have no children together. Never lived together or had any shared assets or anything. He didn't leave anything here or me at his house so it's a clean break.

I'm sorry it's so hard @Cinderelessar

Don't have any advice, but wanted to acknowledge that it just really hurts.
