68 year old man charged with sexual abuse of children

Hey @pancakes I had a bit of a look, searched some tassie newspapers, couple you had to pay to read, couple of others with info, but no more than what the police have reported. I would assume that because it’s child sexual abuse, that they will withhold his name to protect the victims.

This was initiated out of the Royal Commission into Institutional responses to Child Sexual Abuse @pancakes As it is an ongoing inquiry there will be little details around. From what I know he will appear in court this Wednesday on 10 charges. It is unlikely to find much more information than that before he faces court ...and after that it may also be a closed hearing to protect the victims.

Haven't got much to add to this except i been making tea out of those tassie flowers, helps me to remain calm and think straight. At least in the short term. I wish those people who seek justice all the best. Wish i could help, but all i can do is pray, and be a supportive voice.

That's surprising! I thought that was all wrapped up a couple years ago? I didn't realize they were still prosecuting cases out of that.

I wonder how long it generally takes for individual cases out of these inquiries to actually be acted upon?

I have no doubt there will be more @chibam Each case is so dependant on evidence they can bring to each case and therefore it often takes longer for some cases to gather all that and verify beyond any doubt.

@Zoe7It just gets me wondering. I made a submission to the disability inquiry a couple years ago. No interest expressed in it at the time; I got to a point where I assumed that nothing was going to come of it. But now, seeing this, I'm starting to wonder if there will be some sort of extreme delayed reaction, and perhaps someone might want to talk to me about it. 🤔

To be honest, it's still sort of sinking in that maybe the matter isn't finished. As I said, I'd sort of gotten used to the thought that they had no further interest in my input aside from accepting my submission.

I've had a really complicated relationship with this inquiry. For starters, I'm not disabled, but due to their convoluted re-defining of the word "disabled", I was lead to believe (even by the inquiry's staff) that I did qualify as disabled under their terminology. I've since come to doubt that I do indeed qualify as disabled and hence, whether or not my input is relevant or appropriate for this inquiry. I've certainly seen no indications that other people with similarly tenuous claims to the label of "disabled" are being considdered by the inquiry.

I feel as if I've already bothered the inquiry staff too much. And I don't know if I like the idea that asking questions about deeper investigations might trigger some sort of reaction that otherwise wouldn't have occurred, if you know what I mean?

To be honest, I just feel really conflicted about the whole thing.
