Thoughts on getting past anxiety

Thoughts on getting past anxiety

I put myself in an anxious state when around other people. I do this to push them away as I like to think when it is quiet but I need connection and support. It doesn’t work in my family relationships. I want to accept the situation as it is. I want to manage the emotion and plan how to respond to make things better. If this means create space or leave then I need to do it.

Can you do some grounding exercises to help bring you back to the now @Everan ? I often carry a rock or a small object in my pocket. When I find myself getting anxious I stick my hand in my pocket and play with the rock. Feel it in my finger tips, the bumps, different textures. Even looking at it too, different colours and patterns of my rock. I also take it to all my appointments. It help. Doing some deep breathing too.

@Bow Thanks so much for the tips

I try to do some meditations and struggle to be grounded on breathing. I have dysfunctional breathing and I need to focus on that and some techniques.

I have seen some rocks at the store good to activate the senses. I find that watching a video of calming hands helps and ASMR too. Trying hard to be grounded and working on letting go and acceptance.

Hey @Everan Sometimes removing ourselves temporarily from a situation is the best course of action but that becomes harder around family than it does in other situations. Concentrating on breathing and calming our heart rate can work but I find it does not take away the anxiety completely - that is when I personally need to remove myself for a while - especially if it is in a noisy envirnoment and I need quiet.

I love the idea of the rocks @Bow - a great grounding idea to have something that no-one can see but you are very aware of 👍
