Staying home when i need to be in hospital

Staying home when i need to be in hospital

I had a phone call about going into hospital, but my circumstances have change. My father in law passed away on sunday evening. Its quite a complicated situation which i wont go into, except to say this is having a devistating affect on my daughter who has been his full time carer for the last four years, and her two children aged 18 and 11.i am trying to be there for them and my husband.

I just feel so totally drained and just want to sleep. Im not getting anything done in the house. Cooking i either burn it or undercook it. We will have three grandchildren staying with us from monday till the end of the week. Ifeel like i dont have anything left. I dont know how i can get through the next week. Then theres the problem of getting a bed if i do go in. I dont know. How do you pull more out when theres nothing left?

Oh @Chris A death in the family effects everybody differently.

We all burn or undercook things ... sometimes I grab a chook from the supermarket and throw a salad together ... or pizzza .. do what ever gets you through the hard time ...

Re: Staying home when i need to be in hospital

@Chris. Just do what you can. Even if it's as simple as going to the shops. I understand your need to be there for the family at this time. But they must also acknowledge that you are struggling with MI as well as everything else. Your hubby and daughter and grandkids can help with the cooking and laundry. Don't try and do it all on your own.
Explain that you are here for them, but that you will need their help aa well.
If things get too hard - talk to Life Line or your doctor. And keep tatalking to us here.
Hopefully the hospital will find you a bed for the following week.
All the best

Hi there, @Chris

I am sorry for your loss, and I am sorry to hear that you are going through such a tough time at the moment. I think that making small and realistic goals is most helpful when you feel depleted of all energy. Just like you would take the time out when you are physically unwell, it is improtant to take time out when you are mentally unwell too- and that's completely okay! Perhaps think of tiny acts of self-care/enjoyable or self-soothing activities that work for you, that you can use to help restore your energy. You are number one!

Sending care and light,

Bubbly

Hi @Chris

gosh you have a lot on your plate. im so sorry to hear of your family's loss and difficulties. Its so hard to manage everything when its all just piling up. i find hte only way i can keep going sometimes is to only focus on the very next thing that i need to do. whether its cooking dinner, managing a lesson at work, or getting dressed. i try to shut out my brain screaming at me about the thousand other things that are needing to be done and be 'mindful' about that very next thing. soemtimes i have had help from my care workers in writing a list of the priorities that need to be done in the next day or so and just get through those, again one at a time.

i'm glad you are here writing and hopefully you are feeling supproted here. I am listening,

be kind to yourself and do remember to take small moments for yourself to have a cup of tea/coffee/herbal or what takes your fancy! take a few extra minutes in the shower, brush your hair for a few extra minutes just to take time for you really often.

take care,

lj

Finally a date to go into hospital. Tuesday next week. All the grand children will have gone home on Sunday, so i willl have a bit of breathing space. As much as i love having them, they are exhusting, and particularly so at the moment. I dont have a lot of tolerance. So my first ect should be Wednesday. I cannot access this site in hospital, its blocked.

@Chris. This must be a huge relief for you. You have a date. Everything is in place for you to heal. I'm so pleased for you.
Please be sure to take a few minutes here and there for yourself while your grandchildren are still with you. Deep breaths.
Will be thinking of you

Well I'm packed and ready for tommorow. How do i feel about my admission? Mixed feelings really. A part of me accepts its necessary. Part of me feels defeated. Part of me well here i go again, will it work. I dont understand what has been hapening to me this last few months. The mood changes are confusing and somewhat frightening. Feeling so angry and agressive, impulsive. Its not who i am. I need some clarity on whats going on with me. This site is blocked at the hospital so it will be two weeks or so before im back here.

@Chris. Our emotions can be all over the place sometimes - I know. And then I also used to struggle with - why am I feeling this - or I don't even know what set me off - when I'd be a screaming banshee.
But I'll tell you - since my hospital stay & then continuing my therapy with my psychologist - I don't react so negatively as much, and my moods have settled & I understand myself better and can soothe myself.
All the best at the hospital. A deep breath as you walk in. I hope it's as successful for you as I found it.
And please let us know when you get home and how you're feeling.
