Dysphoria

Dysphoria

I am feeling restless and irritable. Torn between negative thoughts and an uncomfortable drive to do something about it, except nothing seems to appease the thoughts or feelings and it only gets worse. It's maddening. Sometimes I wonder if this is just boredom but it feels so much worse.

Re: Dysphoria

Hey @Wander

Feeling restless and irritable is such a tough combo to sit through. There is so much energy and emotion swirled up inside and I can feel that its a lot today.

When you ponder whether part of it could be boredom, I wonder if there is something safe and active or attentive that you could do to occupy your mind/diffuse some energy?

I encourage you to try your best to keep yourself safe, and if you need to reach out to a personal or professional support today, please do not hesistate to do so.

Re: Dysphoria

Thanks Basil.

I thought maybe walking my dog would help, but he can be dog aggressive so I spent the whole time on edge wondering if an unleashed dog will be in our path (my boy is muzzled to reduce the risk if this happens). Outside it's overwhelming, I can't filter the sounds and feel prickly the whole time, I don't know the words to accurately describe it. Reading doesn't work as my mind wanders and I can't sustain the attention required. Talking to my partner or family or friends puts undue stress on them so I avoid discussing it with them, and they often avoid me when they can see I'm irritable due to this, I don't blame them.

Re: Dysphoria

It sounds intense @Wander, like your body/nerves are so activated, everything feels overstimulating/overwhelming...or not stimulating enough (like reading). I hope you can find something in the middle ground, maybe like a freezing cold shower, or some high intensity physical movement. I trust that you know what works for you a lot better than what I know but do take care of yourself today, as best you can.
