How do you store your documents?

How do you store your documents?

I just came home from getting vaccinated, and I found that my Mum went through my room, tidying it, but also searching it.

I noticed a piece of paper on the table, that had the contact number of a psychology clinic in my area, and also mentioned Headspace.

I grabbed it and scrunched it up (discretely LOL). They didn't ask me about it, or at least they haven't yet.

I am glad that she didn't find anything more revealing, like my prescription, or my Mental Health Plan. I have those hidden away pretty well, but some day she'll probably find those too.

Should I give any sensitive documents to my doctor? Luckily she wanted to keep my hospital discharge papers, otherwise my Mum would have found them.

I am surprised that after I was registered with a psychology clinic, they asked me to keep my Plan. Why would I still need it?

How do you deal with sensitive material?

For example, I saw a Q-A once. This girl said her mother found her journal and started reading through it, so she made a password-protected online version instead.

...and my professionals wonder why I don't open up to my family :face_with_rolling_eyes:.

Hi @Former-Member

Sorry to hear that your Mum went through your room. It must be hard to have to hide things from them too and to feel like you don't have privacy.

I have a journal but it is on my computer and password protected. So is my safety plan and any other mental health documents that I have.

I do have some documents in person and have them in a safe place.

It is probably a bit different for me because I can't see my kids looking for things and I am the one that normally does the cleaning, not anyone else.

Hi @Former-Member - this is very frustrating when people invade our privacy.

Parents have a lot of trouble letting go, especially if we've been unwell, but this usually comes from concern more than nasty. My mum was bit of both grr I couldn't leave home quick enough lol

Have you asked your mum not to go in your room? Perhaps set some boundaries where you will tell them stuff in exchange for private.

I have lockable filing cabinets for diaries etc. Two drawer file cabinets on wheels make great bedside tables. 3drawer cabinets are great in corners.

Under the bottom drawer of chest of drawers is good hiding spot.

Families are complicated. I pray your home becomes more safe and respectful, maybe even loving.

Deep breaths xoxo

Easy does it love, what it matters is your mum cares enough to look anyway, but if you want your private things kept cut a hole in the ceiling then use gap filer to close it off

love from your Clawdehop this helps XXX
