Finding that missing piece...

Finding that missing piece...

Lately I have been struggling to find that one piece. I don't know if it's one piece or perhaps it's multiple. All I know is I don't feel like me. I have had the same medications for awhile now, and I will admit I went off my antidepressants for awhile. But now being back on them. I still feel off. With enough sleep or not enough, with destructive behaviour or not, I just can't seem to find it, find myself. Am I unsure of who I am meant to be... Yes. But I have a right to get through a day with at least feeling somewhat close to a person, close to "normal"...

Hi @Mimm

Sometimes we need to allow those hidden pieces and hidden meanings to emerge slowly over time. I'm always very wary of changes that happen too quickly as they never seem to last very long.

It can also take a while to find the antidepressant that works for you. We all have different metabolisms so the antidepressant that is perfect for me may not be as effective for you.

I recommend you have a chat to your doctor and see what she/he recommends. It may be an increase of the current medication or the doc might feel it's time to try a different one.

Keep talking and let us know how you're going. We're a friendly mob. ☺

Re: Finding that missing piece...

Hi @Mimm
I'm not sure if you have BPD but that feeling like there is something missing or a hole in your heart can be a BPD thing. I think it would be worth talking to your mental health professionals about it. I experience possibly something similar. I don't feel like me but the truth is I never really have because I've always struggled with identity. I read your other post as well and I think that our self destructive behaviours ensure that we can't feel like us while we are tearing us apart at the same time. Not sure if you agree. I hope you find some answers that help you move forward a bit, it is a really slow road as @Kurra mentioned and I believe it will take years for me to get to find the missing pieces. My therapist is just working on getting me stable first before any of the rebuilding can be done. Take care💜😊

Re: Finding that missing piece...

@Mimm. Sorry your feeling as if part of you is missing.
I know for a long while I forgot who I was - single parent - bills - work & then MI.
I'm on AD and I also see a psychologist. He has helped me rediscover parts of myself - things I used to enjoy but haven't done for years - my values - what can lift my spirits.
Are you seeing a therapist? Maybe raise this subject with them. & work towards re-discovering your true self.

Re: Finding that missing piece...

There are different ways to go about finding meaning in our lives. Sometimes it is work or family or social or artistic goals. Sometimes the jigsaw metaphor is spot on ... sometimes the piece is out there .. sometimes it emerges from within. Take care
